United Scrap Metal and Ronald McDonald House Charities®  of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana (RMHC-CNI) established a formal partnership in 2005. Together, we have created the following programs by engaging our customers, vendors and consumers to benefit the families that RMHC serves:

The Recycling Rebate Program provides opportunities for our customers to donate a percentage of their overall recycling revenue to help RMHC on an ongoing basis. This program has raised over $55,000 since its inception.

Pop tab recycling has historically been an important fundraiser for RMHC-CNI. Since the start of the program, we have recycled over 400,000 pounds of pop tabs. We continue to facilitate the marketing and distribution of collection receptacles.

Recycle with Ronald is an annual, family-friendly event held at our facility. Participants, include customers, families and members of the surrounding community. Attendees enjoy food, entertainment and educational tours of the USM facility. A portion of all recycling from the day, as well as donations from customers plus those who attend the event, goes to RMHC-CNI and has raised over $150,000.  This equates to approximately 30,000 nights that families are able to stay at one of the Ronald McDonald Houses. If you would like to make a donation or learn more about how you can participate, please give us at call at 708-780-6800 or email us.

For the past two years, funds from our RMHC-CNI programs have been directed to the building of the newest Ronald McDonald House in Chicago.  United Scrap Metal CEO, Marsha Serlin is a co-chair for this fundraising effort and is helping to make this vision a reality.  The current Ronald McDonald House near Children’s Memorial in Chicago sleeps 28 families, and often times has a waiting list.  When the new House is complete in the fall of 2012,  it will be able to provide a “home away from home” to 86 families each night making it the largest Ronald McDonald House in the world!
